Sony is about to publicly release the next biggest system update for the PS4 which is version number 5.50. Sony has now announced via the PlayStation Blog some of the exciting new features that it will include when it comes out later this year.
One new feature that is helpful for parents is a new “Play Time Management” setting. This allows you to check out how many hours your child is playing games, and you can limit the amount of time that are playing. Sure playing games is fun, but it’s important for parents to limit gameplay so that they can do their homework or study exams!
Another new addition is some more tabs on the Library UI. This will make it even more easier for you to find the games and apps that you have already downloaded. You can also hide apps you may no longer need like betas, demos and trials.
One of my favorite new features is that you can now use your own custom wallpaper by plugging in a USB device. It’s interesting this feature is being added so late since this has been available for PS3 for many years now. If you are sick of the default colors, you can now jazz up the UI to your own liking without paying for a theme on PSN.
Some new things have been added to the quick menu and you can now play background music while playing games on PlayStation Now. However, one big feature exclusive to PS4 Pro owners is the “Supersampling Mode”. This mode essentially makes PS4 game look even better even if you are playing a PS4 Pro on a 1080p set or less. Basically it’s enhancing the visual experience if you own a PS4 Pro, but don’t have it connected to a 4KTV.
