Activision struck gold last year with the release of the excellent Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy remake. The game over-exceeded expectations and sold pretty well last year even though it was a PS4 exclusive (and still is). Well now it looks like Activision is doing the same thing for the Spyro the Dragon trilogy too.
According to sources that have spoken to Kotaku, this new Spyro the Dragon remake trilogy will be announced this March for a planned release date sometime in Q3 2018. With the release date so soon, we should see gameplay footage next month too.
The game will be similar to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy featuring new assets, lighting, cinematics, plus a remastered soundtrack. The save feature is also going to be improved since auto-saving was not a common thing back in the PSone era. If you remember the ’90s, we had to rely on memory cards and save points and not hard drives with automatic saving features like today.
The game is expected to be a timed exclusive on PS4 and the game will also have PS4 Pro support too. It’s expected the release date will be around in September to coincide with the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
The remake is being developed by Vicarious Visions who is the same studio that made Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. The developer also successfully made games on both franchises for the Game Boy Advance many years ago as well. They are experienced when it comes to both Crash and Spyro video games.
Judging by how well Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was well received, Spyro is expected to have similar success. The original trilogy came out on the PSOne and made kids of the late ’90s like myself very happy. Anyway, this news should be classified as a rumor for now until Activision makes an official announcement.
