Steam has announced a list of the best selling video games of 2017. 2017 was a great year for games, although some older titles still managed to sell like hotcakes as well.
Steam announced the 100 best selling PC video games of 2017 over on its official website. 12 games earned the respective ‘Platinum’ rating. The chart was measured by gross revenue meaning the games that made the most money were at the top in lieu of actual unit sales.
Anyway, in no particular order is the 12 Platinum selling Steam games: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Divinity Original Sin II, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Grand Theft Auto V, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, DOTA 2, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Ark Survival Evolved, H1Z1, Warframe, Rocket League and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Warframe and DOTA 2 are the only free to play video games on the list, although they have microtransactions so they still earned a lot of money from PC players.
It’s amazing to me how GTA V is still selling lots of copies on all platforms. The game came out several years ago, yet still manages to sell more copies than many newer video games.
Probably the biggest and most well known new release of 2017 on Steam is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The Battle Royal online shooter has now amassed over 3 million concurrent players. Not to mention the player count is higher if we take into account those playing the game on Xbox One and Xbox One X.
There’s currently a New Year’s sale happening on Steam so you can buy many of the top selling games for a fraction of the price. You can click here to see the rest of the top 100 best selling games on Steam. Hopefully 2018 can bring us as many great games as 2017 did.
