The battle royale genre was popularized by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) so many other developers and publishers are jumping on the bandwagon. First Fortnite borrowed the concept and now Paladins is another game adding the popular mode.
Hi Rez Studios has announced via a press release ‘Paladins: Battlegrounds’ which is still free to play and allows you to kills lots of other players. Not to mention it takes place on a map far bigger than any previous one featured in the game before.
Riding on a mount through this massive fantasy-themed map, looking for gear and cooperating with your team, Paladins: Battlegrounds delivers some of the feel of open-world MMO PvP but all within a 20-minute match,” said Todd Harris, Executive Producer of Paladins.
It is being touted as the first ever hero-based battle royale video game. This puts a unique spin on the genre mainly because in PUBG and Fortnite you only play as normal human beings that don’t have special powers and abilities.
It’s still a team based affair, although there are 100 players on one map and you have to keep your guard up in order to be the last team standing.
Hi Rez Studios also released a new trailer that gives us a look at what this new mode is all about. It’s different to Call of Duty mainly because stealth somewhat plays a part because hiding is a good strategy in Battle Royale style modes.
You can check out the trailer down below. The game is currently free to play on both the PC and MAC. Hi Rez Studios is wanting to know about feedback so you should play the mode as much as you can so the gameplay experience improves in the future.
