If you bought an Xbox One S or Xbox One X, you will know that the newer models didn’t allow you to directly fit the Kinect device. Users needed to buy an additional adapter for it to work. Well there’s some bad news because Microsoft has now stopped production of said adapter.
Microsoft confirmed this via a statement they left to Polygon. This means the only way you can buy one now is checking on the second hand market.
They said: “After careful consideration, we decided to stop manufacturing the Xbox Kinect Adapter to focus attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming accessories across Xbox One and Windows 10″.
Microsoft didn’t elaborate further on the topic, but just confirmed that the adapter will no longer be available. The original Xbox One can fit the Kinect nicely as the adapter is only needed for the S, X or Windows 10 PC.
The Kinect was supposed to usher in a new generation of gaming, but gamers didn’t receive to it as warmly as Microsoft did. Some gamers didn’t like the fact that the Kinect was forced onto them when the Xbox One first launched in 2013 for $499.
As the months went by, Microsoft dropped the Kinect from all Xbox One console bundles and now it seems as if they are dropping the hardware entirely. Aside from a few games and UI features, not many people use the Kinect anymore.
VR seems to be the new future of motion control gaming, although even that has been a slow process. It seems as if game developers will have to find new ways in order for people to experiencing gaming in the future. As of right now, people just want a controller at hand and play games the normal way.
