If you loved the design of the original Xbox controller, you’ll be happy to know it is now getting re-released so you can play it on the Xbox One console. The controller being dubbed ‘The Duke” will be available later this year and should be a controller original Xbox fans will love so much.
CNET had a chance to speak with Seamus Blackley who is the designer of the original controller back in the day. Blackley confirms that that ‘The Duke’ should be available sometime in late March for a RRP of $69.99. The controller has been developed by Hyperkin.
Blackley also gave a history lesson on the initial reaction for the fat controller. Japanese developers didn’t like it because it was way too big for them and gamers living in Japan. This is why Microsoft redesigned the original Xbox controller releasing the slim ‘S’ version later on in the Xbox’s life.
The only reason the fat controller is coming back is thanks to Twitter. Many people wanted to see the old controller come back and now it will soon be a reality for Xbox fans all around the world. It’s useful if you have hands that a bigger than the average gamer.
Aside from the Xbox One, The Duke will also be usable on the PC too. It should be good to use for games like Halo or fighting titles. Since the Xbox One itself can now play original Xbox video games, people can relive their childhood all over again with this updated version of the fat controller. Even though only a late March release window was announced, we will have to wait closer to the time for an exact release date so stay tuned for all of the news.
