Nintendo was supposed to release its paid online service for the Nintendo Switch in 2017, but nothing came into fruition. Now it sounds like paid online service has been delayed until Fall 2018.
This new piece of evidence comes from the official Italian Nintendo website. It says online play will remain free until Fall/Autumn 2018. You can read the announcement below.
They said: “With this paid service you have access to online multiplayer and a dedicated smart device app that connects to your Nintendo Switch console and helps you connect with your friends for online gaming sessions. More details on the service will be available before the official launch of the service. This service will be available free of charge until its official launch in 2018.”
We’re only categorizing this as a rumor for now since Italy is the only place to have posted this information at the moment. However, this is good news for Switch owners since free online play will stick around for a longer period of time.
