Physical game cards for the Nintendo Switch are troublesome for some third party developers because they cannot fit their games on the cartridges. Well it sounds like third party developers have to live with the smaller storage until 2019.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, he posted on Twitter: “Nintendo told outside developers that delivery of 64GB game card for Switch would be delayed to 2019. Some large publishers counted on the card expressed me slight disappointment due to game release schedule reasons.”
Nintendo’s own first party developers have managed to compress game sizes, but it’s a problem for third parties porting games over to the Switch because PC/PS4/Xbox One games are very large.
The reason for the delay is due to some technical issues. This could be a problem because Switch owners may have to download large amounts of digital data since game cards won’t be big enough to have the full game.
