Ever since Microsoft allowed backwards compatibility on Xbox One, many gamers were wondering if Sony would be doing the same thing. Sadly, it looks like the company isn’t interested in the feature at all.
Time had a chance to interview PlayStation Europe’s Jim Ryan and it sounds like Sony isn’t a fan of backwards compatibility. They don’t feel many gamers would use it.
He said: “When we’ve dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used muchThat, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?”
It’s a weird statement to make considering Xbox 360 sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Red Dead Redemption skyrocketed on Amazon when those two games were made backwards compatible on Xbox One. Hopefully Sony changes its stance in the future if people demand it enough.
