Despite being low on stock, Nintendo managed to sell over 2.3 million units for the NES Classic Mini console. This number could have been much higher if supply met demand.
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé made the announcement earlier today, although during an interview with Time Magazine he explains why the NES Classic Mini console has been discontinued.
He said: “But from our perspective, it’s important to recognize where our future is and the key areas that we need to drive. We’ve got a lot going on right now and we don’t have unlimited resources”
Basically he’s saying that Nintendo wants to focus on the future and they don’t have enough resources to make any more NES consoles. The product was initially released just for Holiday 2016 so gamers can be occupied until the release of the Nintendo Switch.
It was also reported recently that a SNES Classic Mini console is being released later this year. Nintendo might be putting its resources into that console instead. In either case, the company pulled the plug too early as the unit could have sold far more than just 2,3 million units.
