Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed in a new interview with Famitsu (via NeoGAF) that the combat in Final Fantasy 7 Remake is action-based. This should be a similar system to Final Fantasy XV.
Some people thought turn-based combat could be returning as commands could be seen in the latest screenshot. However, Nomura confirmed this is not the case and Final Fantasy 7 Remake will have an “action system”.
Nomura also addressed the screenshot where people saw Cloud going to cover. There are certain areas in the game that Cloud can take cover, but cover is entirely optional. Again, this is similar to how it was in Final Fantasy XV.
He concluded the short interview that the big Guard Scorpion battle will be flashy and it will have a lot more new moves than what was included in the PSOne original.
There’s still no release date for the game, but the game will be released in multiple parts. Many people are hopeful the first part is available later this year.
