Gamestop may have to close many of its stores across the USA later this year due to declining sales. Fourth quarter sales were down on several segments.
As reported by Fortune, hardware sales for Gamestop declined by a sharp 29.1% while new software sales dropped by 19.3%. Not to mention the share price dropped more than 10% earlier today.
As a result of the lower than expected sales, the retailer will now have to close around 2 to 3 percent of its stores nationwide. This is around 150 stores across the USA.
A spokesperson further said to Fortune that the retailer always expected to close up many of its “non-productive stores”. The stores will be closing throughout the year of 2017. Hopefully those staff members that are affected can smoothly get newer jobs. It’s never nice knowing you are being laid off.
