You may have heard of a guy getting a hand on a Nintendo Switch earlier than its proposed release date. It turns out he bought it off a third party that stole the device.
A Nintendo representative sent out a statement on IGN explaining what happened to the Nintendo Switch. They said that the company has “determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold”.
Nintendo said that they have identified the individuals involved and they have all been fired. They are now being investigated by the local authorities and will likely be charged for their crimes.
For the person that bought the unit, “hiphoptherobot”, he’s had to bring back the unit over to Nintendo after they contacted him about it. He’s not being charged, as he just had to send the unit back. He’s not allowed to say more about the incident though.
If you see a game or game console being sold before its scheduled release date, it’s best to be careful as you might be buying a stolen unit. It’s safer just to buy your gaming goods from trusted sellers and retailers. The official release date for the console is March 3rd, 2017!
