Capcom has explained in a new interview why Resident Evil 7 remains to be a numbered sequel instead of a reboot. After all, it looks different from the rest of the series.
Game Informer questioned Resident Evil 7’s producer, Masachika Kawata, on this very topic. They wanted to know why this FPS style game is a numbered sequel.
Kawata explained that the gameplay might be different, but “the story and narrative have shaped up to fit the series as a numbered title“. He also said that the game still has the basic elements of a Resident Evil video game such as puzzle solving, horror and some combat.
He also said that they pushed to do something new in order to keep the survival horror genre alive and challenge gamers. After all, Resident Evil 6 was not well received due to it being too action heavy with clunky controls.
Resident Evil 7 will be released next month for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One platforms. For PS4 owners, the game is playable from beginning to end with a PlayStation VR headset.
