id Software are still thinking about whether or not Quake Champions will be free to play. The developer is still thinking what is the best route to take.
id Software head Tim Willits spoke about this during an interview with PC Gamer:
I can definitely say that is a really hard problem, and so for us we’re trying to figure out exactly what people want more of, and how they perceive it,” says Willits. “And I’m not even trying to be cagey! It’s not like we know and just aren’t trying to tell anybody, we don’t know and we’re still trying to figure this out.”
When it comes to multiplayer only video games, gamers usually decide if it’s worth buying at full price or not. Evolve wasn’t free to play when it first came out and the population dropped. Now the game is free to play and many players are enjoying it.
Quake Champions is a PC exclusive, so the population will be small to begin with. We’ll just have to wait and see what id Software decides to do.
