JPS: What will be the most defining feature of Wartile when the game is released?
Playwood: I think that it is blending a real-time movement system with tabletop miniatures-style combat and the notion that we are a real-time strategy game that brings board games to life in a way that has never been done before.
JPS: Will WARTILE feature a cooperative game mode?
Playwood: The possibility to play as cooperative is something we would like to see happened and are currently investigating how it could work. But we can’t reveal much more at this stage.
JPS: As part of the Kickstarter campaign you mention “a series of expansions that provide new content” if stretch goals are reached, what form will this content take?
Playwood: We see the WARTILE universe as a platform where we in time can build and expand into a lot of cultural campaigns, small independent stories, new multiplayer modes and game boards, figurine classes etc. We will start to see them mention as reveal stretch goals as we get closer to 100% funding.
JPS: With figurines designed around historical cultures will new “races” also continue this theme?
Playwood: We would love also working with iconic tribes from other time periods like the Roman Empire, Temple Knights and the Crusaders, Spartans or Samurai. As a board game we feel that capturing the essence of these cultures and their mythology in what made them great is more exciting than historical accuracy.
JPS: How will the “modified visual appearance” of completed Battle Boards affect gameplay?
Playwood: Night levels will have an effect on an archer’s ability to shoot from the distance. Their target would need to be lit by a nearby light source for them to shoot. We are also planning of have more severe weather changes, like heavy rain that will make unit movement work differently.
JPS: How would you sell the game to anyone on the fence about backing the project?
Playwood: WARTILE is a real-time strategy game that brings board games to life in a way that has never been done before, with its unique pace and feel, and attention to details WARTILE really tries to stand out from the crowd and do something new and fresh.
