After thirteen years of service, Square Enix is finally pulling the plug for the PS2 and Xbox 360 servers of Final Fantasy XI.
On March 16th, 2016, Square Enix will permanently shut down servers for the PS2 and Xbox 360. As for the PC version, players can still play going forward, although there will be no further updates.
With Final Fantasy XI meeting its end, Square Enix will release the last three scenarios that will end the story of the game. It will be titled, “Rhapsodies of Vana’diel” and will be released in three parts and are set to release in May, August and November. The planned updates for this year will also see the introduction of new content, such as exciting battles, and never-before-seen reward items.
After the final chapter of Rhapsodies of Vana’diel has been released, Square Enix will no longer release any content for the game, though they will continue to have maintenance to fine-tune the game.
