Skullgirls Encore, the latest revision of Lab Zero’s flagship fighter, is stil being tweaked and updated before its release on the PlayStation 4. Part of the big update they’re including is the support for many PlayStation 3 fightsticks, with a few notable exceptions.
Developed by Naughty Dog’s John Bellomy in his free time, these new drivers being written for Skullgirls Encore will allow a large number of PlayStation 3 fightpads and arcade sticks to work with the next-gen build, The primary stipulation is that the driver only works with devices that identify as “generic USB gamepad or joystick.” MadCatz’s line of arcade sticks will apply, as well as the Cthulhu mods if you opted to upgrade a stick from another console. The downside to this driver is that any device that identifies as a DualShock 3 will not work with this driver. Akishop’s famous PS360+ board is sadly one of the notable exceptions. In addition, PlayStation 4-only functions will require a DualShock 4 controller to use, such as the Share or Home buttons.
Mike Zaimont and Lab Zero Games have announced that the drivers they have developed (and continue to work on) will be available to other developers for free on the condition that they share any work spent enhancing the drivers with the Skullgirls team. This could hopefully mean support for a broader range of arcade sticks in the future, or USB racing wheels for those that want to carry over their old Logitech wheels into Driveclub or Project Cars,
