Rise of the Tomb Raider was one of the bigger bombshell announcements. Announced during Microsoft’s conference at this year’s Gamescom, the announcement that the title would be exclusive to Xbox in 2015. Since the conference, many spectators have been wondering exactly what that word ‘exclusive’ truly means to the Tomb Raider sequel.
The Crystal Dynamics developed followup to 2012’s reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise seems to be backed by Microsoft in this case, whether that means financially or development tools only is to be determined. With Phil Spencer so adamant about the stance that ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider will be exclusive to Xbox in 2015’ lead to rumors that there is a timed window before it would release on other consoles in 2016 (or later) before Phil Spencer later clarified the situation. Both Ryse: Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3 were touted as Xbox One exclusive that later were announced for PC releases.
Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, had this to say when speaking to Joystiq:
“I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4. But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer.”
