Tecmo Koei wants to sell over one million copies of the Legend of Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors.
Hyrule Warriors was announced for the Wii U and was a Legend of Zelda version of Dynasty Warriors. Tecmo Koei and Nintendo hopes to release the game soon, but no actual date has been given.
Tecmo Koei Games president Yoichi Erikawa explained more in an interview with Nikkei Trendy:
In gaming, this is a first-time collaboration. As a new entry in the Warriors series, we plan to release the game Hyrule Warriors in collaboration with Nintendo in the summer of this year. In addition to our Warriors series fan base, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda is also a very popular series with a large fan base, and I think it will become a great new market. Because of The Legend of Zelda’s legion of fans overseas, we are aiming to sell more than one million copies worldwide.
Nintendo has sold over 6 million Wii U consoles so far. If Hyrule Warriors is to sell over 1 million copies, 1/6th of Wii U owners would have to buy the game. It might be possible considering it’s Link after all.
