Skylanders and Disney Infinity have become major successes in recent years, especially amongst children. With a collect them all element to the games, new figures are almost like printing money. As a result, Nintendo revealed recently that they were going to jump into the game with their own NFC figures in the near future that will be useable in certain Nintendo games, one of which we now know will be Super Smash Bros. Wii U.
Stephan Bole, Managing Director for Nintendo France recently gave an internet, which has been translated thanks to a poster on NeoGAF, that said:
The NFC will be used in the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.
This was one of the more likely games to utilize this technology, but now the question is how will it be used? Could it be just for things like collectible trophies in game or could there be the potential for new characters brought to the game through the NFC figures? We can only speculate at this point, but perhaps Masahiro Sakurai will reveal the way it will be implemented in an upcoming update, though with it only going to be with the Wii U version it appears, that reveal could be later, if not at E3.
