After a five year wait, we are getting ever closer to the next entry in The Sims series later this year with The Sims 4. While we still have multiple months to wait, Russia has already rated the game and happened to give it a mature rating, with a not very surprising reason based on their country’s politics.
Due to the ability to have same-sex relationships in the game, Russia has officially given The Sims 4 a 18+ rating according to The Sims Russian Twitter account, more than likely due to the amendment passed last year that banned “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relationships.” Polygon reached out to EA to see if they would be editing the game to get a lower rating in Russia, in which Deborah Coster, a spokesperson for The Sims, said:
We have no plans to alter The Sims 4. One of the key tenets of The Sims is that it is up to the player to decide how to play the game. We provide the simulation sandbox and player choice and creativity does the rest.
Based on Russia’s new laws, I’m honestly surprised they aren’t just outright banning the game, but at least it will still be able to be gotten based on this news.
