Mario Kart 8 is officially launching today, but Nintendo isn’t done with the product quite yet, at least in Japan. Nintendo hasn’t been too known in the past for DLC, but following the example of Pikmin 3 and Mario Golf: World Tour, it has been revealed that Mario Kart 8 will be receiving a small piece of free DLC.
When the game launches in Japan next week, Mario and friends will be able to get a little more realistic with their kart choices as we are going to be getting a Mercedes kart in the game. This is due to a partnership with Mercedes Japan, so the odds of a release outside of Japan look kind of slim. While it likely isn’t coming to the US, hopefully this means we might see some regular DLC such as extra tracks or characters in the future, as DLC is possible.
