An answer has been given as to why Harmonix needs Kickstarter to err kickstart a reboot of Amplitude being made.
Some people were scratching their heads as to why a game developer of Harmonix’s stature needs its fans to fund a game like Amplitude.
Harmonix gave a reasonable explanation on their official website why they had to use Kickstarter:
We’ve sought other options out before coming to Kickstarter: there aren’t publishing funds waiting in the wings or some third party who’s eager to offset our costs – either we fund the game here, or the game goes back on the shelf.
It’s possible Amplitude needs funding since Harmonix is pouring money towards Fantasia: Music Evolved which is currently in development for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
