Harmonix has now spoken as to why its Amplitude reboot is only releasing on PS4 and PS3.
Harmonix director of communications and brand management John Drake explained during an interview with Gamespot:
Sony published and funded development of the original titles in the early 2000s, and their ownership stake in the franchise is deeper than just the name of the game. So revisiting Amplitude meant we were exclusive to Sony consoles.
Harmonix was lucky the fan support was large enough to fund the Amplitude reboot. The $800,000 needed to develop the game seemed a lot at the time. It was able to reach its target on the final day of funding.
The game is expected for release in April 2015.
