One of the most anticipated features of Super Smash Bros. Brawl was the ability to take the game online to play against friends or random people across the world. However, that feature was maligned due to constant lag and overall terribleness. According to Masahiro Sakurai in last night’s Nintendo Direct, online play has returned in the upcoming Super Smash Bros., but with some changes.
There is always the option to play with friends with whatever type of customization modes that you like, but when wanting to play a random match against others, you will have two options.
For Fun
-Stages: Random (No Final Destination)
-Items: All
-Smash Battles only
-Only wins recordedFor Glory
-Stages: Final Destination Only
-Items: None
-1-on-1 battles possible
-Wins and losses recorded
Essentially, For Glory is the mode built for those that like the tournament style gameplay while For Fun is literally as it sounds. Hopefully the servers and net code this time around won’t hold back the potential of a great game. Gamers who use unsportsmanlike tactics online will also receive temporary bans to keep them from ruining the experience for others.
