Since it has a been a little while since the release of Borderlands 2, it could have been a good assumption that the next release for the series would have been Borderlands 3. However, we got the surprise announcement of Tales From The Borderlands from Telltale Games back in December, and now we have another surprise according to a report from online retailer Game Points Now.
Instead of an actual sequel, this time we are supposedly getting a game known as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel from 2K Australia rather than Gearbox. This game is said to be set in the five years between the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2.
Set on the moon of Elpis and Hyperions ominous H shaped moon base, the game sees Handsome Jack in the days when he was just a humble programmer called John, hunting a powerful alien artefact (what else!!). Players will be able to select one of Jack/Johns four lieutenants to play as in Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, a militarised claptrap..
Recently, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that the studio was not working on a Borderlands sequel at the time, but the report says that this one is actually coming from 2K Australia instead, so it would still fit, especially with it being a midquel. The retailer speculates that we will see a release in 2014, but there is no confirmation of that from their sources.
