Gamers who like to do everything in a game like collecting all of the available items will have fun in this game. For every level that is available, there’s some sort of a side activity that you can do where you have to get red coins and flowers. With some secret areas available in each level, completionists will find something extra to do aside from doing the linear platforming segments of the game.
When it comes to the game’s difficulty, Yoshi’s New Island starts off easy, but gets complicated at the later worlds. Thanks to the fantastic level designs on this game, you can expect your patience to be tested as some levels can get quite hard. Completionists who think that getting the red coins and flowers are easier in early levels, wait until you hit near the end of the game where you will get headaches trying to figure out how to get them.
Visually, the game looks phenomenal on the 3DS. Every level that you see are designed exceptionally making sure that your eyes will get entertained as you spend your next eight to ten hours with the game. Just like the DS version, expect the visuals to be colorful and charming. As for its soundtrack, there are some catchy tunes that will make sure you hum it as you play the game.
Being a new game in the long running Yoshi’s Island series, I’m sad to say that Yoshi’s New Island didn’t break any new boundaries to make the game innovative. What fans have seen a long time ago on the DS or SNES will be apparent in this game with the exception of new level designs and improved visuals. Those who are expecting to see something new will be disappointed, but fornew comers looking for a fun platforming title, Yoshi’s New Island will exactly give you that – an enjoyable platforming game.
