Just the other night, the unthinkable happened when Twitch Plays Pokemon managed to overcome both the Pokemon League and Champion Blue to beat Pokemon Red/Blue based on the commands of the chat. This playthrough quickly became an internet phenomenon that spawned memes, fanart, and much more. As we told you about yesterday, a countdown was started that most figured would be for the Gold/Silver generation, and those people were correct.
Just this morning, Twitch Plays Pokemon started their playthrough of Pokemon Crystal in the same exact style as with the first. The starting Pokemon picked was Totodile, my personal favorite, and interestingly enough retained his actual name with no random nickname. Now, we will have to see if he can survive the playthrough without being released, like the fate suffered by the starter Charmeleon in the other. The team only consists of Totodile, Pidgey, and Sentret as of the time of this writing, so we will have to see what other Pokemon get added over the coming hours and days.
I am very curious how long this one will take as we not only have eight gyms and the Elite 4 to contend with, but also another group of eights gyms in Kanto and Champion Red. Last time, it took half a month to complete the game, so will this one take about a month? We’ll just have to watch and see.
