As sad as it is to hear, the age of the in-person game rental service is essentially dead with the closing of Blockbuster last year. This has mostly come as a result of other options like Netflix and Redbox with movies, but game rentals have still been hard to come by locally, with Redbox not even offering next generation consoles games. However, that is finally changing as the rental service will start offering PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U games in the very near future.
According to the Redbox website, a few of the top tier Wii U games like Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will begin to be available starting this coming Tuesday, March 25. Then the following week on April 1, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of games like Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Thief will be available, as well as the PlayStation 4 exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall.
Looking even more into the future, it also has Watch Dogs for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as Mario Kart 8 for Wii U in late May. Redbox is extremely random with their in stock selections, so make sure to check online before driving out to try and find a specific game once they are released in the coming weeks.
