Blackpowder Games, a team comprised of F.E.A.R. and No One Lives Forever developers, has officially released their debut title Betrayer on Steam. The atmospheric and heavily stylized first-person game first hit Steam in August of last year as an Early Access offering, but now the game has been added to the digital outlet in its final form. What is Betrayer, you ask? Let’s have game’s designer and writer, Craig Hubbard, answer that.
“Betrayer is the kind of game we’ve been wanting to make ever since we shipped FEAR. You can explore large, open environments in search of clues and loot. You can tackle challenges aggressively or stealthily. You can outfit yourself with the equipment that best suits your play style. It’s a very player-driven experience.”
All of this takes place in an abandoned New World colony in the year 1604. The goal is to unravel the mystery surrounding the inhabitants’ disappearance while attempting to survive the supernatural forces standing in your way. As mentioned above, how the players proceeds and tackles their objective is completely up to them.
Betrayer has bumped its price up to $19.99 — the title was $14.99 during its Early Access phase — but it is currently 10% off ($17.99) for its launch week.
