Sony Online Entertainment has announced that they have now begun to take applications for the 2014 G.I.R.L. Scholarship. The acronym pretty much lets you know one element of this scholarship, but there is more to it as it stand for Gamers In Real Life.
The G.I.R.L. Scholarship awards one winner $10,000 to go towards their tuition, room, board, and other educational expenses at the educational institution of their choice. Beyond this, the winner also has the opportunity to work at Sony Online Entertainment as a paid intern for 10 weeks at their San Diego headquarters. This gives the hands-on experience that most of us can only dream about.
This is now the seventh year of the scholarship. As a result, the Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing at Sony Online Entertainment, Laura Naviaux, spoke a little about the amazing opportunities given with this scholarship.
The G.I.R.L. Scholarship aims to be the first step towards empowering bright careers for young women in the video game industry. By helping to create more opportunities for women in game design, we are helping to shepherd fresh perspectives and new ideas into our industry.
