Activision has revealed that there will now be three developers rotating and working on different Call of Duty titles.
Call of Duty games will still be released annually, but each game will take three years to make thanks to the addition of the one extra developer.
Sledgehammer will now make a Call of Duty games on its own joining Treyarch and Infinity Ward. The next game will be made by Sledgehammer which will be out later this year. After that, it’s Treyarch’s turn in 2015 and Infinity Ward will release their next game in 2016.
“This will give our designers more time to envision and innovate for each title. Simultaneously, it will give our content creators more focus on DLC and micro-DLC which, as you know, have become large and high-margin opportunities and significant engagement drivers,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said during an annual earnings call today. “Finally, we’ll give our teams more time to polish, helping ensure we deliver the best possible experience to our fans – each and every time.”
Will this move increase your confidence in the Call of Duty franchise or are you already over it?
