While we recently learned about PlayStation Now, the Gaikai backed streaming service, that would allow PlayStation 3 games to be streamed online through a variety of platforms, including the PlayStation 4. Now, it appears that the PlayStation 4 may also be getting PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 emulation, but in a different way than PlayStation Now.
Digital Foundry discovered this information from an anonymous source, which said that the PS1 and PS2 emulation would be occurring locally rather than streaming. More than likely, this means they will be uploaded through PSN for download, but maybe they will have another method, perhaps with discs somehow.
It sounds like there will not be the blurry upscaling that we saw on the PlayStation 3, but rather the original assets will be rendered at a higher resolution, which will look better without an actual remaster.
IGN inquired to Sony about these rumors in which they responded “”We don’t comment on rumors or speculation.” Stay tuned for more information in the future on this topic.
