Microsoft’s mission with the new Xbox One has been to make it not just a gaming console, but also a multimedia device that can do just about anything. Corporate VP of Media & Entertainment Blair Westlake played a major part in that as he oversaw the licensing of a variety of multimedia content. However, he has all of a sudden resigned from his position stating the reason as the new direction the company is taking.
Westlake, who joined Microsoft in 2004, spoke out about this reason for leaving.
It has become clear to me that the organization is moving in a direction that does not fit either my expertise or my skill sets.
He goes on further to say he believes this split is for the better of both parties, but did not go into much more detail. Microsoft confirmed the departure by saying that Westlake “made valuable contributions to the company and we wish him success in his future endeavors.”
