When the Wii U launched, you were able to carry over all of your Wii Virtual Console games over to Wii mode, but they were not able to be played natively on the GamePad unless you updated them. Over time, Nintendo has been adding various titles to the service, including one now that many have been waiting for. That game is a Super Nintendo classic that has been released for the Wii U Virtual Console today, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Many expected the updated A Link to the Past to hit the Wii U VC around November when The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds hit, due to all the connections between the two. However, Nintendo chose to wait and put it out today instead. The game is available for $7.99, but if you already own it on Wii and have it on your Wii U system, you can upgrade for only $1.50.
