With the release of Destiny approaching later this year from Bungie, we have learned that one of the former creative leads of the game, Joe Staten, has now joined Microsoft as a senior creative director. This comes after he left Bungie back in September to seek “new creative challenges.”
Tweets surfaced on the Twitter account of Xbox studio manager Mike Ybarra recently where he said “Thrilled to welcome back Joe Staten to the Microsoft Studios family. #XboxOne”
There was not any information given on what Staten will be specifically working on as senior creative director, but a Microsoft spokesperson did give a statement to Polygon that said he would not be working on the next Halo, while also saying:
As a senior creative director, he will help create the world’s best entertainment on Xbox, as well as help shape our franchise strategy for some Microsoft Studios titles. He’ll also be one of our leading ambassadors to the game development community, building on his many years of experience and relationships with developers and fans. We’re excited to share more about Joseph’s role in the future.
