As a follow-up to the Wiiware game Dr. Mario, Nintendo has taken Mario’s license to practice medicine away and given it to Luigi this time. In today’s Nintendo Direct, Dr. Luigi was announced as the game to conclude The Year of Luigi with a release for the Wii U on December 31.
For anyone that has played any games in the Dr. Mario franchise, you pretty much know what to expect in this game. The gameplay is somewhat similar to Tetris and other games in the puzzle genre, but with the use of pills to help eradicate viruses being part of the mix.
Just like with Dr. Mario Online RX on the Wii, Dr. Luigi has the ability to go online and face opponents from all over the world. The game also includes the Virus Buster game mode, that was first seen in Brain Age 2 and made an appearance in Dr. Mario Online RX.
Check out the trailer below and keep an eye out for the game on the Wii U eShop New Year’s Eve.
