The Nintendo Wii U came out one year ago, but the console has only managed to sell 4.3 million units so far.
Ouch, this is quite low considering the Xbox One and PS4 both have sold over 2 million units in just under a month. Nintendo initially expected to sell around 9 million Wii U units by the end of the current fiscal year (March 31st, 2014). This is not likely to happen at this rate.
The Wii U does have some impressive games coming out in 2014 including new versions of Donkey Kong, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Still, it’s quite daunting how the console never managed to sell many units even with a one year head start over the PS4 and Xbox One. It will only be an uphill battle from here on out now that all console are now out in the market.
