South Park is nearing the end of its 17th season and still doesn’t show any signs of slowing down with a renewal through 2016. Through the years, the series has taken on pretty much everything you can imagine from pop culture to politics.
In that time, there have of course been episodes involving video games, including one focused on World of Warcraft and the hilarious two-parter where Cartman froze himself because he couldn’t wait for the Wii to come out. The show has also shined in recent years with a few epic trilogies in the Imaginationland and Coon sagas.
Now we combine their take on video games and trilogies into one amazing combination, the console wars trilogy that just concluded this week. Starting a few weeks ago with the episode “Black Friday,” the story centers around the kids of South Park fighting over whether to get the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as Black Friday looms near. At South Park Mall, the first set number of shoppers who enter the mall get anything they want at a ridiculous discount, thus leading the kids to plot ways to get inside first.
The entire trilogy is also one giant Game of Thrones parody, which makes it all the better, though it does somewhat spoil some elements of the series, but you may not catch said spoilers if you haven’t seen the series. From the hilarity of Princess Kenny to Randy Marsh’s time as a security guard at the mall for Black Friday, this trilogy delivers over and over again.
It’s also quite fitting that the series would take on a video game themed trilogy considering there is an upcoming South Park game, South Park: The Stick of Truth, which will be releasing for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on March 4. These are certainly three episodes of the show that you will not want to miss. For those in the US, you can watch them right now at the official South Park Studios website. I will just warn you, prepare to laugh…a lot.
