Even though the PS4 is out, the PS3 is still a great machine to buy in itself. This is because it’s cheaper and has a boatload of games you can buy.
If for some reason you never picked up a PS3, now is the best time to do so because there are a ton of great games to get. Even in 2013, Sony released a lot of new exclusive titles. Not to mention the PS3 can do things that the PS4 cannot right now. This includes playing audio CDs and MP3 files as well as 3D Blu-ray playback.
*Note prices reflect RRP in the USA
PS3 Console
There are various PS3 consoles that are available in stores and they vary in hard drive space and price. I’d advise not getting the “cheaper” 12GB PS3 model in any way because many PS3 games require mandatory installations. You won’t be able to fit many games just using 12GB. There are PS3 models that come in 250GB or 500GB bundles. In the USA, the 250GB bundle comes with The Last of Us and this usually costs around $250. There is also a 500GB PS3 model that comes bundled with Grand Theft Auto and that retails for $270. Some retailers will offer other games too so it pays to shop around to see what you like. Still as aforementioned, the 12GB model may seem like an affordable option, but it’s not useful if you plan on buying more than one game for your PS3…
DUALSHOCK 3 Controller – $54.99
There is no point on buying a PS3 for your family if you only have one controller. It’s best that you buy another controller so more than one person can enjoy it. A second controller is essential if you plan on getting a fighting or sports game. Sony’s official DUALSHOCK 3 controllers retail for $54.99. There are cheaper third party controllers out there that work, but the official controllers are the best and most reliable ones out there.
HDMI Cable
Unfortunately, the PS3 only comes with an outdated AV cable out of the box. I’m guessing a lot of people have HDTVs now, so it’s best to get a HDMI cable for the PS3. HDMI gives you the best quality picture for your games. The PS3 is also a Blu-ray player so your favorite TV shows and movies will look better too when the console is connected to your TV via HDMI.
Gran Turismo 6 – $59.99 (For Racing Fans)
Gran Turismo 6 is the latest PS3 exclusive to come out and it’s the ultimate racing game. If you know somebody who is a hardcore racing fan, this is the game to get. The graphics are excellent and there are around 29 tracks in total that span locations all around the world. You’ll never get bored of this game because there are over 1,200 cars to get.
The Last of Us – $59.99 (For Action Fans)
Naughty Dog is one of the best game developers around and they have created yet another masterpiece. If you loved the Uncharted series, The Last of Us is another game that has great graphics and a gripping story. There’s many reasons people are calling this game the best PS3 game ever. When the game came out earlier this year, the game was sold out in some places. Thankfully, you can get the game easily now. If you haven’t played it yet, you should, because The Last of Us is one game you don’t want to miss out on.
Beyond: Two Souls – $59.99 (For Film Fans)
Beyond: Two Souls is a unique game because it’s more like an interactive movie more than a traditional game. Not to mention it stars Hollywood actors like Ellen Page and Willem DaFoe. Beyond: Two Souls has an exciting and unpredictable story plus unique gameplay features that don’t appear in any other game I’ve played all year. If you’re looking to play a game that’s different, Beyond: Two Souls is one game you should look out for.
The Puppeteer – $39.99 (For The Kids)
The Puppeteer is a very unique platform title that I’m sure kids of any age will love to play. Not to mention the game is only $39.99 so it’s cheaper than the price of most other PS3 games. The game has a charming story and gameplay that is both fun and challenging. I’m sure the kids will love it, but some adults should like it too.
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus – $29.99(For Fans And Kids)
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is the latest game in the popular series. The game goes back to the platform genre which will please long-time fans. The game is a bit on the short side, but it’s fun to play and the discounted price is a real bargain. I’m sure many kids will love playing this game, but also fans of the series will love it too. There is still the duo’s iconic humor that will make people of all ages
Tales of Xillia – $39.99 (For RPG Gamers)
The latest Tales game in the long running franchise of Namco is Tales of Xillia for the PS3. Considered as one of the best JRPG titles last generation, fans of the genre should definitely consider picking up the game as it offers an amazing storyline, an improved battle system, and interesting characters. Those who have played Tales of Graces f two years ago and were disappointed, it’s guaranteed that Tales of Xillia will give you the satisfaction you’ve been looking for in a JRPG game.
