The Call of Duty franchise has been the most popular series in gaming for years now and that train doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Yesterday, Call of Duty: Ghosts launched to an insane level of hype and made $1 billion in sales to retailers.
This number may sound crazy, but remember this is the money made by selling directly to the retailers, not the consumers. Sales numbers for that have yet to come out for day one. However, it is still insane to think that they have sold that many to retailers on day one.
There is no word if this included the sales of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One copies to retailers as well. I would assume that is the case based on these comments from Activision’s Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg.
This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin.
You can pick up Call of Duty: Ghosts right now in stores for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. You may be able to find copies of the next generation versions on shelves as well, but your mileage may vary.
