For pretty much anyone that grew up in the 90’s, the role of the Joker is synonymous with Mark Hamill, at least in any animated incarnation. Of course we have had others for different series and games, but Hamill’s run as the Clown Prince of Crime in Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, and the two Batman: Arkham games stand out above the rest. However, Hamill announced in the past that he was ending his time with the role in Batman: Arkham City.
Now we have someone else taking the mantle of the Joker in Troy Baker, one of the most popular and best voice actors around right now. We’ve heard some glimpses of Baker’s Joker before now, but he chose at New York Comic Con to read one of Joker’s monologues from probably the most iconic Joker graphic novel, The Killing Joke.
It amazes me how similar to Hamill he sounds, with some little changes to make it his own. We will see much more of him in the role come next Friday when Batman: Arkham Origins releases for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC. Check out the video of Troy Baker reading the monologue as the Joker below:
