Valve recently announced their living room based SteamOS, which has the aim to allow you to have the same PC gaming experience on a big screen. The system will connect with Steam to bring you all of your games, online friends, and other Steam features on your living room television. Valve has updated their website with a lot of new information about the exclusive service.
As we’ve been working on bringing Steam to the living room, we’ve come to the conclusion that the environment best suited to delivering value to customers is an operating system built around Steam itself. SteamOS combines the rock-solid architecture of Linux with a gaming experience built for the big screen. It will be available soon as a free stand-alone operating system for living room machines.
On top of the games, you will also be able to stream music, television, and movies from your computer to your living room machine that has SteamOS. It will also include Family Sharing, which will allow you to share your game library with your other family members, with each person having separate achievements and saves on the cloud.
The website continues on to say that SteamOS “will be available soon as a free download for users and as a freely licensable operating system for manufacturers. Stay tuned in the coming days for more information.” Valve has also teased two other announcements that will be coming this week, so stay tuned.
