With Grand Theft Auto 5 arriving on Tuesday, there is no real surprise that there will be some leaks of the game in the days prior. Supposedly, a leaked copy of the code for the Xbox 360 was found by someone on 4chan and was then posted on Reddit through Pastebin in an XML file. The file seems to have build code for a Playstation 4 and PC version of Rockstar Games‘ latest game.
This code could very well be fake, but if it is, the person who did so was very dedicated with their prank as the file features nearly 2,000 lines of code. The first argument for people saying it could be fake would obviously be why the build code for other consoles would be on an Xbox 360 version’s code. However, this is pretty common in gaming with multiplatform games as most developers use a base code and then use a configuration file to make that code for a specific system. The code is only very different for handheld or mobile versions of games.
The code itself has four systems listed: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, and Orbis. The Orbis was a codename for the Playstation 4 that is used as the operation system name in development kits. The odd part of this is that there is not an Xbox One version listed, which you would assume would be coming if it was coming to the Playstation 4.
This follows other possible leaks of versions beyond Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 through sites like Amazon Germany, who posted a page for a Playstation 4 and PC version of the game, while Amazon France listed a PC version. Now all we can do is wait and see if we really are going to get a next generation version or not. My assumption would be that if they are coming to next generation consoles or PC, we won’t find out for a little while so people aren’t hesitant to buy the current generation version.
