GTA V isn’t confirmed for any other platforms outside of the PS3 and Xbox 360, although Rockstar says the game still feels “next-gen”.
Rockstar North associate technical director Phil Hooker was interviewed by IGN talking about the many improvements they made in GTA V.
Here’s what he said:
Every aspect of the game had to be better, richer in gameplay and more fluid and knowing we were launching on the same platforms meant we could focus on extracting the most out of those consoles and making the game as fantastic as possible.
In the end we surpassed our own expectations and during development I think everyone working on the game has been astounded by improvements to the graphics, or new mechanics, or AI, or mission scope along the way.
Hopefully the gamers will see all of these improvements at once in one go, compared to GTA IV this definitely feels ‘next generation’ to us.
There’s no doubt that Rockstar made so many visual and gameplay improvements in GTA V compared to GTA IV. Not to mention the map is bigger and there are tons more missions and activities that you can do in the game as well.
GTA V is released worldwide from September 17th for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

September 7, 2013 at 1:52 PMIt only feels next gen because there finally using the current generations maximum potential, I really don’t think game developers should move on from these systems so soon. I bet every next gen title could be played through current gen consoles. Honestly I think the next gen can wait because we’re just uncovering the true power of today’s game consoles and personally the end of a consoles life cycle is the most exciting to me because that’s when they are in their prime.

September 7, 2013 at 5:22 PMNext gen game should be on next gen consoles also. The fact that this ‘next gen game’ is only coming out for current gen consoles is weird. If it were to come out for the PS4, Xbox one, and PC then the game would run much smoother with a higher frame rate, and will have much more detail with better graphics.

September 8, 2013 at 4:12 AMHey Blackhawk, I understand what your saying. Yes they can squeeze more out of a console towards the end of its life cycle. But you can never match a launch next gen with a maxed out current gen. It has never ever happened throughout history because the tech is so far ahead.
For example, Ubisoft are making Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag on PS3 and PS4. Even though they have massive expertise on PS3, they claimed the PS4 versions will have more accurate water and physics simulations, higher res textures, more complex AI activity, more detail in the world and smoother frame rate with zero screen tear..
I’m ready for next gen now, because I’m sick and tired of the PS3’s jerky frame rates, screen tear, fuzzy anti aliasing, crappy flickering pixilated shadows and low res textures. It’s time to move on.
Only those who were late joining the PS3 party, want the PS3 to outstay its welcome. By clinging to PS3 too long, that means you’re going to be late joining the PS4 party as well, and have the same problem for PS5. Make a clean break and stay current. The future on PS4 looks excellent so join the party now.

September 8, 2013 at 4:36 AMKim Jong Un is correct. GTAV will run far superior on next gen. Just the extra smoothness alone will vastly enhance the immersion. Unfortunately Rockstar are playing the money game. They are holding back the next gen version so that people buy the current gen first, then buy it again on PS4. The PS4 version is definitely coming. No doubt about it. GTA Online continuing forever proves it. Rockstar have never said it is not coming to PS4 because that would be a lie. They have only stated why the current gen is releasing first and why people should buy now.
Once the current gen version is out the gate and people cannot cancel their pre-orders, they will announce the PS4 version which is waiting in the wings to be released 6 months after the PS3 version when the sales start to dry up. That also coincides with the start of the next financial year in April.
Whether to wait or not is a tough choice, and playing the PS3 version first will be a spoiler for when you platy the super smooth HD PS4 version, even if you don’t mind buying it twice. There is no right decision, just personal preference.

September 8, 2013 at 6:32 AMGood point Kim. That is tactically my greatest concern. I like PC gaming.
