As part of Square-Enix’s big push towards the mobile gaming platform, new rumors are arising about their newest projects. Among those rumors is the possibility of a new Final Fantasy entry for iOS and Android platforms. While not necessarily a new numbered entry in the series, a new title could be arriving with the Final Fantasy Agito title. Credits go out to the folks over at NeoGAF for the plethora of information
Agito was originally planned to be a trading card game focused loosely upon the Fabula Nova Crystallis, or Final Fantasy XIII, world. Later on in development, Agito was transformed into a PSP-exclusive roleplaying game known as Final Fantasy Type Zero in Japan. While Type Zero has never made its way outside of Japan, there have been numerous projects and social initiatives pushing for Square-Enix to localize and bring it stateside.
The aforementioned Agito title, referenced in both an upcoming Famitsu issue as well as various twitter accounts, is rumored to be arriving on mobile devices, specifically on iOS and Android. Hajime Tabata, known primarily for his works on mobile titles such as Final Fantasy Crisis Core and Type-Zero, is referenced to be the game’s producer and should be arriving this winter (later 2013/early 2014) in Japan with no mention of arriving overseas. Final Fantasy Agito is listed as being a prequel to Type-Zero but no other information regarding the story or gameplay has been given yet.
