It appears Square Enix is taking marketing advice from Team Ninja by adding “boobs” to Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
It has been revealed that Lightning will have a bigger breast size in Lightning Returns going from a C Cup to a D cup. It was reportedly an order from the game’s director Motomu Toriyama to make her breasts “bigger”.
Another thing about Lightning in Lightning Returns is that some of her costumes will make her breasts “jiggle”.
Sexualizing women is nothing new in any media. We see this from any Michael Bay movie and of course Team Ninja’s Dead or Alive series. I feel it’s inappropriate to do these things on a character like Lightning.
Lightning was supposed to portray a tough, modern and independent type of woman. She reminded me of actress Milla Jovovich who was able to kick-butt and take care of herself.
These new “features” in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII seem inappropriate and serves nothing other than “fan service”. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come with regards to marketing a Final Fantasy game in the future…

July 29, 2013 at 1:38 PMI just wanna say, this isn’t really the type of fanservice you are thinking of. That outfit is the racial outfit for the catgirl race “Mi’Qote” from Final Fantasy XIV. It was added in as a nod to the MMO which is relaunching next month. also, the majority of FF games have had boob physics of some kind for a while now. Boobs don’t stand still against the human body when the body moves. They move and have weight. When a woman’s boobs don’t move in a game it drops them into the uncanny valley like woah.

Damn right. I remember Terra and Celes had some boob pixel jiggle going on back in the day.

July 30, 2013 at 10:49 AMI understand everyone concern, but I honestly don’t think that we will find the game itself overly sexualized once we get playing. For one thing, did anyone actually notice that Lightnings breasts were bigger before we were told? Also, if anyone has an issue with the skimpy costumes, just don’t use them. From what I have seen in the trailer, there is plenty of cool, modest costumes to choose from. Personally, I think all this fan service is against what Lighting stands for so I will be sticking to costumes that best represent her… usually…
