Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono wants to make Street Fighter V, but says money is an issue.
Here’s what he said during an interview with 4Gamer:
“Realistically speaking, developing a title for next-gen consoles requires a huge amount of staff members, and a large sum of money. The issue of money also applies to everyone else, as it’ll be required to invest in a new console, game, and arcade stick.”
This is the main reason why we haven’t seen Street Fighter V even though Street Fighter IV was released way back in 2009. Instead, Ultra Street Fighter IV will be released in early 2014 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
He did mention the possibility of the series going free-to-play considering Tekken and Killer Instinct have gone that route. Still, developing a free to play Street Fighter still costs money, and Capcom may not approve of a model that might make them lose more money.
