Aussie Gamer has reported that Australia might pass a law that might ban region locked electronic devices.
The inquiry from the Australian government suggests that video game console makers should release region free products, or not release them at all in Australia.
It will also be illegal for companies to penalize region lock-out features in Australia which means separate terms and agreements will have to be written. This also means digital content will have to be universal too.
This isn’t set in stone of course, but it’s something the Australia Government should implement. I know some games, music and apps are region locked and it can be annoying if you cannot access them.
Sony and Microsoft won’t have to worry about the region locking ban since the PS4 and Xbox One can play games around the world. Only Nintendo right now have region locks on its consoles…
